Callout the FBI!

Citizens in Nevada County have to be wondering about the validity of the reelection of Greg Diaz as the Clerk/Recorder. The revolving door at the Nevada County Clerk Recorder’s office continues to provide embarrassment for the county. The irregularities of the last election could be explained as beginners error. But Mr. Diaz was up for reelection himself this year; this time it speaks of illegality.

Friday, a local poll supervisor called the county Clerk/Recorder’s office to say there were uncollected blank ballots still at the collection point that were to have been collected on primary Tuesday. The report is that Mr. Diaz did not move to collect them until under the full scrutiny of Fox 40 News. This was on top of Mr. Diaz’s snafu in the Primary voting using misprinted ballots.

The reelection of Mr. Diaz is in doubt: the fabric of civil society rests with electoral validity, and there is none for the June 9 election in Nevada County. This is too important to leave to local officialdom. As Mr. Diaz is supported by the Democratic machine, well die holding our breath waiting for State Attorney General Jerry Brown: we’d better get the Feds to investigate this. And soon!

McClintock as Kingmaker?

It seems every politician running in a primary this year is trying to ride McClintock’s coattails. What coattails? you ask. McClintock as a potential Republican kingmaker seems pretty unlikely as he’s lost every statewide office he’s run for. But the evidence is mounting.

Maggie’s Farm blog is not your typical fire breathing rightoshpere kind of place. It’s actually kind of sweet and disjunct. But catch this entry:

Former California legislator and now congressman Tom McClintock is the most highly respected knowledgeable, personable and consistent conservative among California Republicans. Unfortunately, that hasn’t been enough for him to win a statewide election, which should tell you something about what can win in California.

McClintock is definitely not part of a Republican establishment, instead honestly calling the shots as he sees them. . . Poizner is not a consistent conservative, but he is a proven manager of complexities who can hit the road running. His Republican opponent, Meg Whitman, of eBay fame and wealth, is another able platitudiner, . . . but lacks the knowledge to either take down Brown or turn California from its precipice. Whitman is no more conservative than Poizner, neither of whom are down-the-line conservatives. I trust Tom McClintock.

Long time Republican analyst William E. Saracino explains that at least some of the phenomenal turn around in the Poizner campaign is due to the McClintock effect. Also see the McClintock effect in the 11th CD where polls completely turned around.

If McClintock is the gold standard endorsement, the country club Republican set had better sit up and take notice.
